Major InconvenienceMy husband and I were 220 miles away when Melba called to arrange to show our house in a couple of days. At first we said no; we were on vacation. Then, upon weighing a change of circumstances on our end against the possibility of missing a potential cash buyer who was looking for exactly what our house offered, we decided to make the 4-hour drive back. After arriving home at 12:30AM, and literally 24 minutes before the designated appointment time, we received a call from Melba cancelling the appointment. Her reason was that her client "didn't want to deal with a for-sale-by-owner because it wasn't fair for the seller to be making a commission that would otherwise be going to an agent." Say what??? It made no sense to us whatsoever that a buyer, if we were willing to pay Melba her 3%, would care where his savings of the other 3% was coming from. Where we had already been on the receiving end of convoluted, poorly-timed stories from other real estate agents, this seemed to us to be just one more.
